PNC elects vice presidents; Rafiu secures highest number of votes

The People's National Congress (PNC) has elected six individuals to serve as the party's vice presidents.
During the congress held on Wednesday, six individuals were elected to the positions of vice president, out of a total of eight candidates who contested for the seats.
Sports Minister Abdulla Rafiu was elected as the Vice President of the PNC with the highest number of votes, securing 968. Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam followed in second place with 964 votes. Nilandhoo MP Fathimath Sauda, the sister of President Muizzu, was elected to the third position with 923 votes.
Furthermore, Baarashu MP Ibrahim Shujau secured the fourth seat with 862 votes. Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed was elected in fifth place with 780 votes, while the Chief Government Spokesperson, Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundu), secured the sixth position with 833 votes.
The other candidates who contested for the vice-presidential positions were Asma Rasheed, the Member of Parliament for Maafannu Central, and Mohamed Nimal, the CEO of the Local Government Authority (LGA). Asma received 288 votes, while Nimal secured 301 votes. Both candidates were unsuccessful in their bids for the seats.
The PNC has stated that the party's vice presidents have been elected for a five-year term.
