Mariya, who resigned from the Cabinet, appointed as Ambassador-at-Large

Former Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare Dr. Mariyam Mariya, who recently resigned from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s cabinet, has been appointed as an Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to information received by RaajjeMV, Mariya has been reporting for duty at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for several days following her appointment to the position of Ambassador-at-Large.

Mariya resigned from President Muizzu's cabinet in April this year. At the time, it was announced that her departure was intended to facilitate the government reforms sought by the public, following the administration's setbacks in the local council elections and the national referendum held earlier that month.

Following President Muizzu's inauguration on November 17, 2023, Mariyam Mariya was initially appointed as the Minister of Higher Education. However, as part of subsequent cabinet reshuffles, she was reassigned to the position of Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare.

While Mariya has been appointed as Ambassador-at-Large, this position was also granted to other officials who resigned from the Cabinet. Similarly, former Tourism Minister Thoriq Ibrahim and former Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar were also initially appointed to the post of Ambassador-at-Large.

Following this, Thoriq was appointed as the Ambassador of the Maldives to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Meanwhile, Adam Shareef was appointed as the Ambassador of the Maldives to Qatar.
