The family of Abdul Maniu, native to Hanimaadhoo island of Haa Dhaal atoll, a Maldivian student training to become a pilot in the Philippines, who was injured after being hit by the propeller of a training aircraft, has stated that he has not received any assistance from the government and that the government is lying when they claim to be providing assistance.

Maniu's mother, Aishath Ihusana, in a phone interview with RaajjeTV's morning talk show, "Fashaairu" said that she requested the government not to politicize the matter while claiming to be closely monitoring her son's situation. His mother said that if making a phone call is considered assistance, then that could be considered as such, but beyond that, no help has been received.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel had stated that the government has been closely monitoring his situation from the moment the incident report was received, as per the advice of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He has also shared a message on social media regarding this. Minister Khaleel said that Maniu's father had expressed happiness that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, and Civil Aviation were inquiring about Maniu's condition.

Maniu's mother said that her son experienced a sudden shock after the incident. She said that the last time someone from the government contacted her was on the evening of April 13. Since then, neither she nor any other family member has been contacted by the government.

Further, Maniu's mother said she couldn't confirm whether Minister Khaleel had called Maniu's father or not. Maniu's mother said she received news of the incident while she was in Hanimaadhoo. She also stated that apart from Maniu's fellow students and family, they have not received help from anyone else.

She noted that her son's condition is steadily improving. However, she said that doctors have adviced him not to speak, and to rest well until he recovers completely.

The incident occurred when the Cessna-125 aircraft piloted by Maniu spun and struck him with its propeller after he had landed and disembarked, while the engine was still running, according to media reports citing fellow students. Maniu's mother said the exact details of how the incident occurred are not entirely clear. She also expressed her wish not to discuss the details of how the incident occurred until her son is able to speak properly.
