Foreign Ministry Urges Maldivians in Flood-Hit Nepal to Seek Assistance

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested any Maldivians in Nepal requiring assistance following the recent devastating floods to contact the ministry.
In a press release issued Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is closely monitoring the situation following a dangerous disaster triggered by a glacial landslide and mudflow into a river along the border between Nepal and China's Tibet region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it has received no reports of any Maldivian nationals being present in the disaster-affected area. According to a statement issued by the Ministry, inquiries made through the High Commission of Maldives in India and the Honorary Consul of Maldives in Kathmandu have confirmed that no Maldivians residing in Nepal were affected by the disaster.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested Maldivian citizens in Nepal who may require assistance or further information regarding the disaster to contact the ministry's hotline or reach out to the consular department via email.
Climate experts from the Nepal-based International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) suggest that the sudden flooding was likely triggered by a massive glacial breach.
