Azima Shakoor, the family lawyer of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has been appointed as the Principal Secretary at the President's Office.
Government spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundu) has confirmed to RaajjeMV that Azima has been appointed to the position.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, Shareef confirmed that Azima was appointed as the Principal Secretary at the President's Office on Sunday.
Azima serves as the personal legal counsel for President Muizzu’s family. In this capacity, she has represented the family in several legal matters, including cases filed by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.
Azima’s appointment to a position at the President’s Office comes at a time when the government is dismissing lower-level employees from state-owned enterprises under the guise of cost-cutting measures. The government has faced significant criticism following this move.
Azima Shakoor, the legal counsel for the President's family, has previously faced two charges in connection with the massive MMPRC embezzlement scandal. She was charged with facilitating money laundering and providing false information to a state institution.
However, under the current administration, those charges have also been withdrawn.
