President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that population consolidation and regional development are among the core policies of the current administration.
In an interview with "The Pulse" podcast, President Muizzu stated that the government will implement a long-term sustainable development policy by establishing integrated development zones and urban centers in the north and south of the Maldives. He emphasized that population consolidation remains one of the administration's primary core policies.
While population consolidation and regional development remain our core policies—alongside the establishment of urban centers and integrated development zones in the north and south—we are committed to implementing a sustainable development strategy for the medium and long term. However, since every citizen on every island is equal, I believe they must be treated as such. Therefore, opportunities and services must be provided equitably to everyone. A government must ensure that essential services are accessible to all citizens.President Muizzu
The President stated that every citizen is equal in his eyes. He further emphasized his belief that essential government services must be provided equitably to all, regardless of whether a citizen belongs to the smallest island or a major city.
Consequently, the President gave his assurance that all essential services required in every Maldivian island will be established within the current term.
The President stated that under this policy, essential facilities across the healthcare, education, waste management, sports, banking, and commercial sectors will be established on every island. These developments include fitness and recreation centers, outdoor gyms, and waste management centers, as well as police stations and children's parks. Furthermore, the President highlighted the government's commitment to completing water and sewerage projects on all islands and ensuring the construction of high-quality, safe harbors.
Furthermore, the President stated that under the regional development plan, efforts to develop airports across various regions and the construction of high-quality hospitals and schools will proceed. The President noted that all these initiatives are being carried out under a specialized plan designed to provide the highest standard of development to all citizens.
Despite the President's assertions, the majority of development projects across the islands remain stalled. As these projects fail to progress, residents from numerous islands are expressing their growing concerns and voicing their frustrations against the government.
