Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that over two million Rufiyaa was spent on public meetings held in 2023 during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's tenure as Mayor.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Mayor Azim stated that MVR 2,050,520 was spent on a public meeting held in 2023 during President Muizzu's tenure as Mayor.
However, following the implementation of robust cost-cutting measures, the expenditure for the meeting held in February 2026 was reduced to MVR 567,839. Similarly, the meeting conducted in July 2026 incurred a total cost of MVR 585,137.
Mayor Azim stated that the information circulating in the media and on social media regarding the expenses of Male' City Council meetings is inaccurate. He clarified that some news outlets have misrepresented the figures, reporting the total expenditure for multiple meetings as the cost of a single session.
Mayor Azim has urged all parties to refrain from spreading such misinformation and to ensure the accuracy of information before publication.
By law, the City Council is required to hold public meetings twice a year to seek and gather community feedback.
