Utheemu's "Boduthakurufaanu Handhaanee Dhoroashi" Officially Opened

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu today inaugurated the Boduthakurufaanu Memorial Gateway in HA. Utheemu, developed as part of a project to revive the legacy of Dhivehi Ghazi Bandaarain.

The President inaugurated the gateway on Saturday morning during his visit to HA. Utheemu to participate in the official festivities marking this year's National Day.

According to the President's Office, the ceremony was attended by the President and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Speaker of the People’s Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Chief Justice Uz. Ahmed Muthasim Adnan, Member of Parliament for Baarah Constituency Ibrahim Shujau, and various Cabinet Ministers. The event was also attended by long-serving state officials, members of the foreign diplomatic corps, and a large number of the general public.

The President's Office stated that the Boduthakurufaanu Memorial Gateway was designed to symbolize the historical struggle led by the national hero. The structure features six primary pillars, the designs of which were inspired by the traditional architecture found in ancient Maldivian mosques. These six pillars represent the six heroes who served aboard the Kalhu-oh-fummi during the historic campaign to secure Maldivian independence.

The President's Office has announced that a special national project is underway in Haa Alif Atoll to preserve the legacy and heritage of Ghazi Bandaraain (Utheemu Muhammad Thakurufaanu), as part of a broader policy to revive Maldivian nationalism and culture. The primary objective of this policy is to safeguard the nation's heritage and integrate it with the tourism sector to ensure its preservation for future generations.

President Dr. Muizzu inaugurated the project to develop the Bodu Thakurufaanu Memorial Gateway during his visit to Ha. Utheemu last year.
