Severe Weather to Persist Through Friday

The Maldives is currently experiencing monsoon rains, with weather conditions expected to improve starting Friday afternoon, according to the Maldives Meteorological Service.

Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "60 Minutes" program, meteorologist Nasoohu Ismail stated that the Maldives is currently experiencing monsoon rains, with weather conditions expected to deteriorate further over the next 24 hours.

Nasooh stated that weather conditions are expected to deteriorate across various regions of the north and central Maldives, with heavy rainfall anticipated. He further noted that while the southernmost areas will experience scattered showers, rainy weather is specifically expected to affect Huvadhu Atoll and Laamu Atoll.

Nasuhu stated that winds are expected to prevail from the southwest and west at speeds between 12 and 20 mph, with gusts potentially reaching approximately 40 mph during squalls. He further noted that southern regions will experience wind speeds ranging from 5 to 15 mph, which are also expected to increase during showers.

Weather conditions are expected to improve starting Friday afternoon. However, Nasooh noted that skies will remain overcast throughout Thursday and during the morning hours of Friday.

He further stated that sea conditions are expected to be rough across all areas, with wave heights projected to reach between 3 and 6 feet.

Consequently, the Meteorological Service has urged the public to remain vigilant regarding the weather. Seafarers, in particular, are advised not to embark on journeys without first checking the latest weather forecasts.
