Authorities have warned of deteriorating weather conditions across the Maldives over the next 24 hours, urging the public to remain vigilant as some islands may experience tidal flooding during high tide.
The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecasted scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across various islands from 10:00 AM Monday to 10:00 AM Tuesday. Winds are expected to prevail from the west and northwest at speeds of 5 to 15 mph. The department further noted that wind speeds could gust up to approximately 35 mph during showers.
The Maldives Meteorological Service has stated that seas are expected to be slight, becoming moderately rough during squalls, with wave heights ranging between 2 and 5 feet. The office further noted that some islands may experience tidal flooding during high tide hours.
Furthermore, the Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a nationwide white alert due to the potential for tidal flooding. The alert is in effect from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. this Monday.
On Sunday, several islands, including the capital Malé, experienced significant tidal surges that resulted in widespread damage.
