Official ceremony held to launch construction of 50 housing units in Ukulhas

The project, which was awarded to Altec Maldives in November last year, involves the construction of three-bedroom apartments and is scheduled for completion within 600 days.

The official groundbreaking ceremony has been held for the construction of 50 housing units in AA. Ukulhas, a project President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had previously pledged would commence last year.
The ceremony was held on August 5, 2026, to coincide with President Muizzu's official visit to the island. The physical works of the project were officially inaugurated by the Minister of Housing, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib.
President Muizzu first announced this project during his visit to the island on August 20, 2025. Addressing the residents that day, the President stated that to resolve the housing crisis in Ukulhas, a project to construct 50 housing units would be awarded and commenced within the year 2025. The project was subsequently awarded to Altec Maldives Private Limited on November 6, 2025.
Under the terms of this agreement, the entire project must be completed within 600 days.
However, as of Wednesday, no physical work on the project has commenced.
The housing units to be constructed in Ukulhas will consist of three-bedroom apartments. The government stated that this project will significantly alleviate the housing shortages currently facing the island.
