Muththalib Blames MDP for Ameenee Magu Damage

Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has stated that the MDP administration must take responsibility for the deteriorating condition and poor quality of the recently asphalted sections of Ameenee Magu.
Speaking at Monday's parliamentary sitting, Minister Muththalib stated that while Ameenee Magu reflects the standards of the MDP administration, the caliber of the current government's work will be demonstrated through the Boduthakurufaanu Magu project.
The Minister stated that when the current administration took office, work on one segment of Ameenee Magu remained unfinished. However, rather than keeping the road closed, the Minister explained that the Road Development Corporation (RDC) was permitted to complete the project following the existing work plan.
Regarding the redevelopment of Ameenee Magu, the Minister further noted that the project was undertaken after determining that the Road Development Corporation (RDC) possessed the internal capacity to carry out asphalt paving, utilizing a manual machine imported from India.

The Minister called for a comparison between the quality of roads constructed by MTCC and those of Ameenee Magu. He further noted that efforts are currently underway to rectify the issues encountered during the completion of the Ameenee Magu project.
The Minister stated that the current condition of Ameenee Magu reflects the standard of work maintained by the previous administration, assuring that the projects undertaken by this government will be of significantly higher quality.

Despite the Minister’s remarks, the deterioration of the asphalt on Ameenee Magu to a hazardous level has occurred specifically in the final two segments developed under the current administration. Work on these sections commenced on December 9, 2023, and the entire road was officially reopened to the public on January 12, 2024. At the time, the government heavily promoted the project, highlighting that the work was completed in just over a month. Furthermore, the administration took credit for completing the entire Ameenee Magu project, branding the rapid pace of the work as "Muizzu Speed."
