Muththalib Declines to Comment on President’s Six-Month Project Pledges

Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr Abdulla Muththalib avoided giving a direct answer and instead offered various excuses when questioned whether President Muizzu’s recurring campaign pledges to complete projects within six months in every island were based on technical advice from the Ministry.
Minister Muththalib attended Monday's People's Majlis sitting to respond to inquiries submitted by the Member for Kendhoo constituency, Mauroof Zakir.
Two questions submitted by MP Mauroof have been included in the agenda for the Minister. These inquiries seek clarification regarding the water and sewerage projects in B. Kihaadhoo and B. Kudarikilu, which remain stalled despite President Muizzu’s earlier pledge to complete them within six months.
Noting that President Muizzu had pledged to complete projects in both islands within six months during his visits, MP Mauroof questioned the Minister on whether the President’s assurances were based on advice from the Ministry of Housing. He further sought clarification on the criteria or assessments used by the President to determine such timelines.
Instead of answering the question directly, the Minister stated that the President sets deadlines because of a genuine desire to deliver results for the citizens. The Minister then spoke about the previous administration's project management and highlighted the challenges currently being faced in project implementation. However, the Minister failed to provide a direct answer to the question posed by MP Mauroof.
During Monday's sitting, the Minister stated that the two projects the President pledged to complete within six months are nowhere near finished. Minister Muththalib also acknowledged that the work is not progressing at the desired pace.
