The Naalaafushi Island Council has expressed concern over the suspension of a project to construct four additional classrooms at the local school.
According to information shared by the Naalaafushi Council with RaajjeTV, this project was initiated during the previous administration. The council stated that while the majority of the building's construction had already been completed, work resumed following the inauguration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Furthermore, the council noted that despite President Muizzu’s pledge during his visit last year that classes for the current academic year would commence in the new building, no work has progressed to date. The council further highlighted that they have not received any information regarding the status of the project.
The council revealed that parents and teachers have collaborated to construct a temporary classroom for Grade 8 students due to the ongoing suspension of the permanent project. It is understood that the temporary structure was built under the assumption that the original building project would have been completed swiftly.
Naalafushi School serves as a vital educational hub for the children of the island. However, the Island Council has highlighted that the suspension of ongoing work at the school is causing significant challenges in the delivery of education. The Council has urged the relevant authorities to expedite the project and resume work as soon as possible.
The local council has revealed that residents and parents are expressing growing concern over the government's failure to fulfill its pledge to complete the construction of the school building.
