The Managing Director of Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO), Mujthaba Jaleel, has announced that services at the transfer stations in Malé, Hulhumalé, and Villingili will operate without interruption starting this Saturday.

In a post on X, Mujthaba stated that the service will be available starting Saturday, consistent with previous arrangements. Furthermore, Mujthaba confirmed that WAMCO's waste collection operations will also continue as usual.

Furthermore, Mujthaba stated that waste brought to the transfer station must comply with established waste transportation standards and regulations. He added that construction and demolition (C&D) waste must be separated into two distinct categories. Specifically, it must be sorted into pure C&D waste and mixed C&D waste.

Construction and demolition (C&D) waste consists of sand, crushed concrete, concrete pillars, concrete slabs, stones, bricks or hollow blocks, tiles, and bathroom fixtures. Other categories of C&D waste include PVC, glass, timber, sacks, metal, plastic, electronics, cardboard, and various other materials.

WAMCO has stated that waste not sorted according to these guidelines will not be accepted. The corporation further requests customers to call 1666 for any additional information or clarifications.

Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) operations came to a standstill following a fire at the company’s site in Thilafushi. The suspension of waste collection services has led to significant public concern and a surge in complaints from residents.
