Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has announced a reduction in waste collection services for Villimalé and Hulhumalé following a fire at its operational site in K. Thilafushi.
In a statement released Wednesday night, WAMCO confirmed that the fire in Thilafushi broke out at the Regional Waste Management Facility.
The company stated that this has necessitated the closure of certain areas within the WAMCO Thilafushi site, resulting in a slowdown of its daily operations.
In a statement, WAMCO confirmed that operations at the Hulhumalé and Villimalé transfer facilities have been affected. As a result, the corporation noted that it has been forced to limit the volume of waste accepted from both Hulhumalé and Villimalé.
Furthermore, the company stated that operations at the Thilafushi site are currently being restored to their normal state. The company also apologized for any inconvenience this situation may cause.
A fire broke out at a WAMCO site in Thilafushi at approximately 10:20 PM on Sunday. Emergency teams managed to bring the blaze under control shortly after 8:00 AM the following morning.
