Newly developed section of Male' Boduthakurufaanu Magu opens without drainage system!

Despite the opening of the second segment of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, the lack of a completed drainage system has led to significant flooding during rainfall, causing major difficulties for the public. In response, MTCC stated that pump station installations are scheduled for completion by the 15th of next month, with the entire project aimed for finalization by November.

It has been revealed that the second phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project, completed under the current administration, was opened without an established drainage system.

While the completion and inauguration of a project are typically understood to mean that the site is fully finished, the public only realized that the newly developed section of Male's Boduthakurufaanu Magu was opened prematurely when heavy rainfall on Thursday caused significant flooding across the road.

Following public outcry and criticism on social media regarding the inconvenience caused, the government stated that the flooding on Boduthakurufaanu Magu is due to the ongoing construction of three planned pump stations that are yet to be completed.

In a statement released following recent flooding, MTCC, the contractor for the project, announced that three pump stations scheduled for Boduthakurufaanu Magu will be installed, tested, and commissioned by the 15th of next month. The company further assured that it will continue to carry out dewatering operations on Boduthakurufaanu Magu during this period should any flooding occur due to seasonal monsoon rains.

Speaking on the "Nation's Chat" program on the 29th of this month, President Muizzu announced that the final segment of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project—stretching from the MPL area to the Tsunami Monument—will commence shortly. The President detailed plans to construct approximately six jetties within the harbor to allow all speedboats to dock directly alongside the quay. He further stated that these harbor works, along with the remaining road construction, are scheduled for completion by the end of November.

It has been noted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu frequently asserts that his administration approaches every task with a holistic perspective, ensuring that all initiatives are executed to a high standard of completion.
