The Maldives Police Service Disciplinary Board has decided to dismiss an officer following the disappearance of USD 30,000 from funds seized during an investigation.
In response to an inquiry from RaajjeMV, a police media official stated that the US dollars in question are linked to a case investigated by the Maldives Police Service in 2019.
He stated that the Professional Standards Command has investigated an incident where US dollars held under the custody of the Police Finance Department were damaged due to the negligence of the officer in charge.
Following the submission of the case to the disciplinary board, the board recommended the employee's dismissal and decided on July 7, 2026, to suspend the individual from their duties pending the conclusion of the appeals process.
The discrepancy in the funds was discovered during an inspection conducted after the Criminal Court ordered the disbursement of the money.
