Hussain Shafeeg appointed as the third CEO of MPL under President Muizzu’s administration!
Hussain Shafeeq was appointed as the CEO of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) on Wednesday following the resignation of Mohamed Rishwan, marking the third leadership change at the company under the current administration. Shafeeq, who is the brother of Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeq, takes over the role amidst a series of recent high-level reshuffles within various state-owned enterprises.

Hussain Shafeeq has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).
The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) announced on Wednesday the appointment of Hussain Shafeeq (Dhafthar No. RS 2861) as a member of the Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officer, and Managing Director of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).
Wajeeh Ibrahim was first appointed as the CEO of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) on November 28, 2023, under the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He was removed from the post on February 2, 2025.
Subsequently, Mohamed Rishwan was appointed as the CEO of MPL on February 5, 2025.
However, following the significant defeat faced by the government in the Local Council elections, the Women's Development Committee elections, and the referendum held on April 4, Rishwan resigned on April 6, 2026. His resignation came after the government requested him to step down, amidst a wave of dismissals and voluntary resignations of officials from various state-owned enterprises.
According to reports, the third individual appointed as CEO of MPL is the elder brother of Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu.
