Over 5,000 vape cartridges seized during attempted smuggling
Maldives Customs Service has seized a large quantity of vaporizers smuggled into the country via sea freight during a special operation at the Male’ Commercial Harbor. The prohibited items, which were declared as general cargo, were discovered concealed inside canisters of potato chips and chocolate powder packets; the authorities have confirmed that a further investigation into the matter is currently underway.

Authorities have seized 5,600 vape cartridges attempted to be smuggled into the Maldives.
According to information released by Maldives Customs Service, a special operation was conducted on Wednesday following suspicions that a sea freight shipment contained illicit items. The operation was carried out at the Male’ Commercial Harbor.
Customs officials reported that a large quantity of concealed vapes was discovered during an operation to inspect a shipment declared as "general cargo." According to the agency, a total of 5,600 vape cartridges were seized and are currently in Customs' custody.
Furthermore, Customs conducted a special operation at the Male’ Commercial Harbor on June 14 and 15, following suspicions that a sea freight shipment contained illicit items.
During the operation, authorities discovered a large quantity of vapes concealed within a shipment of potato chip canisters and chocolate powder packets. A total of 1,108 vape cartridges and 27 devices were seized and taken into Customs custody.
The matter is currently under further investigation.
