During the visit, board members also toured the vocational training sites where various rehabilitation programs and courses are conducted for inmates to observe the progress of these initiatives.
The Maldives Correctional Service revealed in March this year that although 241 inmates applied for parole last year, only 27 individuals were granted release.
According to statistics released by the Maldives Correctional Service, a total of 241 parole applications were submitted in 2025.
In this regard, 189 applications met the eligibility criteria, while 43 were disqualified. Maldives Correctional Service stated that eight applications contained incomplete information, and one has been forwarded for legal counsel.
The Maldives Correctional Service has announced that out of the eligible applications received, 42 cases are currently being processed, while 32 cases have been fully completed. Additionally, 86 cases have been submitted to the Parole Board for a final decision. The Service further noted that the Parole Board has approved the release of 42 individuals on parole, while 44 applications were rejected.

However, the Service noted that certain challenges persist, particularly regarding social and familial hurdles faced by inmates during the reintegration process.
