The Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City, Mohamed Athif, has stated that he will cast his vote for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in the 2028 presidential election if the administration completes the promised 3,400 housing units in the city before the end of the current term.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fashaairu" program, Mayor Athif stated that despite the council’s current term being halfway complete, there has been no significant progress on the island's housing projects. He specifically noted that for the 400 housing units previously initiated, the project has reached a standstill where not even a single coat of plaster has been applied to date.
Highlighting the projects planned for Kulhudhuffushi, Athif stated that President Muizzu has committed to fulfilling his pledge of 2,000 housing units, in addition to proceeding with the 1,500-unit project initiated by the previous administration. Athif further noted that the President has pledged to complete a total of 3,500 housing units in Kulhudhuffushi within the current term.
"I would be very pleased if President Muizzu completes the construction of 3,400 housing units in Kulhudhuffushi within the remaining two and a half years of his term. If he does, I will certainly give him my vote. Should the President finish these 3,400 housing units during this term and then seek my support, he will have my vote."Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City, Mohamed Athif
The Mayor further noted that although no physical progress has been visible on these projects over the past two and a half years, the residents of the island remain hopeful that the work will be completed in the coming days.
The government has previously stated that providing a permanent solution to the housing crisis in Kulhudhuffushi is a key priority for President Muizzu’s administration.
