Only project moving at Muizzu's claimed speed is reclaimed land erosion: Didi

Expressing concern over the stagnation of development projects and the declining economic state under President Muizzu’s administration, Didi highlighted that government policies have led to a surge in dollar exchange rates and the bankruptcy of small businesses. He further noted the critical issue of erosion affecting reclaimed land and called upon the public to stand against policies that obstruct their livelihoods and financial stability.

Former President of the MDP, Dr. Ibrahim Didi, has remarked that the only projects progressing at the "speed" touted by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu are those involving the erosion of reclaimed land.

Speaking on Wednesday night's "Fala Surukhee" program, Didi heavily criticized the current administration, highlighting a stark contrast between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's campaign promises and his government's actual conduct. He further expressed deep concern over the stagnation of ongoing development projects across the country.

Didi stated that the country has come to a standstill under the current administration and is failing to make any progress.

Referring to development projects, Didi stated that land reclaimed under the current administration, as well as areas reclaimed during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s tenure, are eroding due to a lack of coastal protection. He further remarked that the only things progressing at the "speed" President Muizzu claims are the erosion of reclaimed land and the rising exchange rate of the dollar.

Furthermore, Didi stated that environmental considerations are being disregarded in the implementation of development projects.

For instance, in Addu City, President Solih’s administration reclaimed two lagoons specifically for resort development to boost tourism. However, not a single one of those projects has progressed. Instead, they are eroding away at what has become known as "Muizzu’s speed." It is worth noting that the rapid erosion of reclaimed land is among the few things actually moving at this so-called "Muizzu speed." This, along with the skyrocketing dollar rate, are the two primary things truly advancing under this administration's pace.

Furthermore, Didi stated that the government's policies must be reformed to ensure national progress, noting that the current trajectory is leading to the increasing impoverishment of the citizens.

Highlighting the government's pervasive involvement in various commercial sectors, Didi noted that while an eyewear shop has been opened within IGMH, the Hajj Corporation has also ventured into the tourism industry. Didi remarked that President Muizzu assumed office with a pledge to create favorable opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). However, he stated that instead of receiving such support, businesses are now collapsing and facing bankruptcy.

Consequently, Didi stated that the public must stand up against these policies, which are causing a continuous decline in people's income.

Ihavandhoo Hospital: No physical progress on construction as frogs breed in excavated site

Former Member of Parliament for the Ihavandhoo constituency, Mohamed Shifau, has expressed grave concern over the stalled construction of the Ihavandhoo Hospital, noting that the excavated site has become a stagnant pool breeding frogs and mosquitoes. Shifau highlighted that although the current administration halted the project initiated by the previous government and re-assigned it to the Road Development Corporation (RDC), no physical work has commenced on-site. He further criticized the government for neglecting the island's healthcare system, pointing out that despite President Muizzu’s presidential pledge to prioritize the project, the ongoing delays demonstrate a significant failure to fulfill that commitment.
