Ahmed Saleem (Maaz Saleem), a member of the MDP National Congress, has stated that the final signal of a collapsing authoritarian regime is the use of workplace intimidation and threats against employees.
Speaking at the "Employment Thursday" protest held by the MDP on Thursday night, Maaz Saleem stated that threatening the job security of citizens is the final death knell of authoritarian regimes, and that this is exactly what is being witnessed under the current administration. He further alleged that the government is utilizing the police force to inflict violence upon the public.

Referring to the government's efforts to maintain its grip on power following public protests against inhumane acts, Maaz Saleem stated that the MDP will not back down, even if charges are brought against them for allegedly obstructing police duties.
He stated that people across various regions of the Maldives took to the streets against the government due to intimidation regarding their employment and the ongoing unfair dismissals of workers. Maaz Saleem further noted that these protests serve as a powerful message to the administration.
The final death knell of such authoritarian regimes is the intimidation of employees through the threat of job loss. This is the ultimate warning sign. Today, we are living through the echoes of this bell and facing the fear it instills. Indeed, there is a final ritual observed as such autocracies collapse. That final ritual is exactly what we are witnessing now: the systematic use of employment insecurity as a weapon of intimidation.Ahmed Saleem (Maaz Saleem), a member of the MDP National Congress.
Furthermore, Maaz Saleem has called for the reinstatement of all employees who were unlawfully dismissed from their positions. He also urged the leadership of the Employment Tribunal to fulfill their responsibilities with fairness and integrity.
