Former Dhaandhoo MP Yauqoob Abdulla has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is resorting to oppressive measures against the public out of desperation, knowing he will not secure a second term in office.
Speaking at a press conference held at the MDP headquarters on Thursday, Yauqoob stated that President Muizzu is aware he will not be re-elected and is becoming increasingly desperate. He further alleged that this desperation has led the administration to intimidate employees across various state-owned enterprises and the civil service.
Yauqoob stated that as the administration approaches its third month, it has become the government to lose public popularity faster than any other in history. He further asserted that President Muizzu’s administration will fail to secure victory in any future elections.
Resorting to the intimidation and threatening of employees is a clear sign that an administration or a president’s popularity is in a state of terminal decline. Furthermore, there is a widespread consensus among the public, including those currently employed by the state, that this administration will not secure a second term. This sentiment is shared by political appointees, employees of state-owned enterprises, and civil servants alike. This reality is particularly recognized by the general public.Former Member of Parliament for the Dhaandhoo constituency, Yauqoob Abdulla.
Highlighting the extreme prevalence of workplace victimization, Yauqoob stated that this reality was witnessed across the entire country during the MDP's chairpersonship campaign.
He stated that threats and intimidation have been used against citizens who came out to welcome former President Mohamed Nasheed.
