Every family of a dismissed employee will become a family that opposes this government: Shahid
Speaking at a protest organized by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) against the dismissal of government employees, party president Abdulla Shahid declared that the MDP will not remain silent while the government infringes upon the right to employment. Shahid noted that every dismissal creates a family opposed to the current administration and assured that those terminated would be reinstated to their positions under a future MDP government.

Abdulla Shahid, President of the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has stated that the family of every employee dismissed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration will become a family that opposes the government.
Speaking at the "Employment Thursday" protest held by the MDP on Thursday night, Shahid stated that the Constitution of the Maldives provides extensive protection for the citizens' right to employment. He emphasized that the MDP will not remain silent while President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration infringes upon that right. Shahid further asserted that MDP members and the general public will not be intimidated into backing down, declaring that they have taken to the streets to challenge the government.
Abdulla Shahid stated that for every individual dismissed from their job, the current administration is creating an entire family that opposes the government. He further noted that the government cannot earn the people's affection by leaving them destitute, adding that the administration is currently witnessing its own decline.
Shahid stated that the MDP assures the public the party will take all necessary actions to defend those being dismissed from their jobs. He further guaranteed that upon returning to power, the party would reinstate employees to the positions from which they were removed, reaffirming this commitment to the people.
The "Employment Thursday" protests were held simultaneously across all islands of the Maldives.
