The government has abruptly abolished the position held by Transport Safety Board Director Ahmed Zuhair following his participation in the campaign of MDP candidate Abdulla Sodiq, who won the Hithadhoo North by-election. Zuhair, a seasoned aviation expert, stated that the government eliminated his post as a pretext for his dismissal because there were no legal grounds to terminate his employment through standard procedures.

The government has abolished the position held by Ahmed Zuhair, Director of the Maldives Transportation Safety Board, after he was seen in a photograph with Abdulla Sodiq (Sobe), the MDP candidate who contested the Hithadhoo North by-election.
Speaking to "RaajjeMV" regarding the matter, Zuhair stated that Sodiq, who defeated the government candidate to win the North Hithadhoo constituency by-election, is his brother-in-law. He further noted that as soon as Sodiq decided to contest the election, he had informed the relevant authorities of his intention to work on the campaign.
Zuhair stated that the government had been working to dismiss him from his post since that time. However, he noted that after failing to find any procedural grounds for his termination, they opted to abolish the position altogether.
Zuhair was appointed to the position following a comprehensive interview process, in recognition of his extensive experience within the aviation sector. However, the political director post he held was abruptly abolished sometime on Sunday.
The Maldives Transportation Safety Board was established by the President under the powers vested by Article 116 of the Constitution. The agency is mandated to conduct independent investigations into land, sea, and civil aviation accidents and incidents, with the objective of strengthening transportation safety and security across the country.
Zuhair is a seasoned professional with extensive technical knowledge and experience in the aviation industry, dating back to the era of Air Maldives. Furthermore, he served as the Managing Director and a board member of Island Aviation during President Mohamed Nasheed's administration. Most recently, Zuhair held the position of State Minister at the Ministry of Transport during the previous MDP government.
