Kinbidhoo Council decides to retain SG in post until November
The Civil Service Commission has decided to allow the Secretary General of the Th. Kinbidhoo Council to remain in her post until the expiration of her current contract, despite potential legal conflicts arising from her brother’s election as Council President. To mitigate these conflicts, the Commission has directed that her core responsibilities, including financial oversight and performance evaluations, be reassigned to other staff members. This decision was made to honor existing employment agreements while ensuring the administrative integrity of the council remains intact.

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has decided to retain Aminath Sahiyya as the Secretary General of the Th. Kinbidhoo Council until the end of her contract, following the election of her biological brother as the Council’s President. The commission noted that adjustments have been made to her official responsibilities to address the situation.
Speaking to "RaajjeMV" regarding the matter, Civil Service Commission Secretary General Abdulla Saeed stated that the Commission has decided to allow Sahiyya to remain in her position until the expiration of her contract, out of respect for the terms of her employment agreement. Sahiyya's contract is set to expire in November of this year.
Mohamed Shafiu was elected as the President of the Kinbidhoo Council and officially took his oath of office on May 17th. Shafiu is the younger brother of Sahiyya, who currently serves as the Council’s Secretary General. According to the Civil Service Commission’s laws and regulations, a conflict of interest arises when there is a close family relationship between the responsible head of an office and one of its employees.
Under the law, the responsible head of an office is prohibited from being a close relative of an employee, including a parent, child, spouse, or sibling. Following the emergence of such a situation within the Kinbidhoo Council, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) has investigated the matter and implemented administrative measures.
The Civil Service Commission has instructed the Kinbidhoo Council to reassign the responsibilities of the Financial Responsible Officer, which are typically held by the Secretary General (SG), to another administrative employee. Furthermore, the Commission has directed that administrative duties, such as supervising the Secretary General’s work and conducting performance appraisals, be transferred to the Vice President of the Council.
With these changes, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) has determined that Sahiyya will be able to continue her employment at the Kinbidhoo Council Secretariat until the expiration of her current contract. The CSC stated that this decision was made to resolve legal conflicts while ensuring that the employee's contractual rights and job security remain unaffected.
