Mohamed Mujthaz has been appointed as a member of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

In accordance with Article 180 (b) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives and Article 13 of Law No. 5/2007 or the Maldives Civil Service Act, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu appointed Ustaz Mohamed Mujthaz of Ma. Sigma to the Civil Service Commission on Sunday. He was appointed to the position during a special ceremony held at the President's Office.

Prior to his appointment as a member of the Civil Service Commission, Mohamed Mujthaz took the oath of office for CSC membership. The oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice Hussain Shaheed.

The president presented Mohamed Mujthaz with the letter of appointment as a member of the Civil Service Commission after he was sworn in.

Mujthaz obtained a Bachelor of Law degree from the Maldives College of Higher Education. He has previously held positions such as Minister of State for Presidential Affairs at the President's Office, Member of Parliament, and other senior positions.

A position in the CSC membership became vacant on March 11 when Ibrahim Rasheed, who was serving as the Vice President of the Commission, resigned from his position. Rasheed resigned following the Independent Institutions Committee's decision to initiate the process of his dismissal to the parliament floor.

No official party has formally disclosed the reason for the committee's decision to dismiss Ibrahim Rasheed. However, some members have reportedly told some media outlets that the committee decided to dismiss Ibrahim Rasheed in connection with a letter submitted to the committee by MP for Hulhudhoo constituency Mohamed Shahid.

The current administration has been making significant changes to independent institutions using the main ruling People’s National Congress (PNC)’s supermajority in the People’s Majlis. The president has advocated for reducing the size of independent institutions and abolishing some institutions. The public has been criticizing the president, accusing him of interfering with independent institutions from the first day of his presidency.
