Police are investigating an incident where a speedboat traveling from Rasdhoo took on water and sank near Constance Halaveli Resort. Police have launched an investigation into an incident where a group of people ended up in the sea while returning from an Eid show in AA. Rasdhoo.
Police reported that a speedboat traveling near Constance Halaveli Resort began taking on water and was sinking at approximately 01:45 AM on May 30, 2026.
Following the incident, the speedboat's owner dispatched an additional vessel to the area, successfully transferring all 20 passengers and ensuring their safety, according to the police. The police further stated that the owner has confirmed all individuals on board are in good health.
Footage circulating on social media of the speedboat capsizing shows that none of the passengers were wearing life jackets. Reports indicate that several individuals on board did not know how to swim. The video depicts those unable to swim clinging to the hull of the overturned vessel, while those capable of swimming are seen staying afloat by holding onto various pieces of debris.
In the wake of this incident, there have been widespread calls for a thorough investigation. Many have also highlighted a significant issue regarding maritime safety, noting that life jackets are often not provided during sea travel, and even when they are, they are frequently not used.
Police are conducting a further investigation into the matter.
