Greater Male' area hit by total blackout
Electricity services were abruptly interrupted across all areas of Malé and Hulhumalé around 12:00 PM today, resulting in a total blackout across the capital region and causing significant disruptions to public services.

Male' and Hulhumale' have been hit by a sudden total blackout following an abrupt power failure.
Power outages occurred across Male' and Hulhumale' at approximately 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
STELCO has not yet disclosed the cause of the power outage.
The widespread power outage across Male' occurred during upgrading works on the power system at the 50-megawatt powerhouse in Hulhumale'.
Power returned to the capital after 03:00 p.m. on Saturday.
