A meeting between former President Mohamed Nasheed, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, and former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has commenced.
The meeting commenced at 8:00 PM on Friday night. All three presidents have arrived at the venue, and the session is currently underway.
The meeting between the three former presidents comes at a time when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration is being accused of obstructing press freedom. In response, the three former leaders have expressed their shared interest in working together to defend the independence of the media.
This marks the first time the three former presidents have met in such a manner.
Police have begun operations in the area where the three presidents are scheduled to meet. Officers are currently working to clear members of the public from the vicinity. The police actions have sparked a degree of discontent among the people gathered at the scene.
