All students rescued from leaking speedboat safely transported to Male'
All students were safely transported to Male' following a joint rescue operation by the Marine Police and MNDF after their speedboat began taking on water near Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa. No serious injuries were reported in the incident, and the police are currently conducting a further investigation into the matter.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has confirmed that all students aboard a speedboat that began taking on water after its hull was breached near Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa have been safely transported to Male'.
The incident occurred around sunset on Monday. The speedboat was transporting students to Male' following the completion of the "National Service Training" program held in Lh. Maafilaafushi.
Regarding the incident, police stated that they received reports of a speedboat hull breach at approximately 18:04 on Monday, May 18, 2026. Upon receiving the report, two Marine Police vessels were immediately dispatched to the scene. Authorities confirmed that rescue operations were initiated promptly to ensure the safety of those on board.
According to the MNDF, all students on board the vessel have been safely transported to Male' after the speedboat's hull breached and began taking on water. Police confirmed that they assisted in the rescue and transport of several individuals who had fallen into the sea during the incident. No reports of serious injuries have been received so far following the incident.
Police are currently conducting a further investigation into the matter to determine the cause of the incident. Relevant authorities continue to urge travelers and vessel operators to remain vigilant regarding safety measures to prevent such maritime accidents.
