Employee with highest appraisal score dismissed under influence of WAMCO MD
Serious allegations of political influence have surfaced following the dismissal of a veteran employee who served at WAMCO’s R. Vandhoo facility for eight years, despite the company's official stance of streamlining operations and cutting costs. Although the employee was previously assured of reinstatement following the council elections, reports indicate that new staff are being appointed to the facility through political channels even as existing personnel are terminated. Employees at the site have raised concerns over the matter, alleging that the company’s Managing Director and several high-ranking political figures are directly influencing these administrative decisions.

An employee at the R. Vandhoo Waste Management Facility has been dismissed from their position, allegedly due to the direct influence of Mujthaba Jaleel, the Managing Director of Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO).
The individual dismissed from his position in connection with this matter has been identified as Mohamed Sameeh, an employee at the facility. WAMCO’s head office issued his official termination notice last Wednesday.
The letter sent to Sameeh stated that following his decision to contest the local council elections, he had been placed under paid suspension from December 19, 2025, until the announcement of the interim election results, in accordance with company policy. It further noted that this suspension was lifted following the conclusion of the elections. However, the letter clarified that Sameeh was dismissed from his position effective May 20, 2026. This decision was made under a policy to streamline operations and reduce staff numbers, following a directive from the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB).
Speaking to "RaajjeMV" regarding the matter, Sameeh stated that his candidacy for the R. Rasmadhoo Island Council election was in full compliance with company policies. He explained that although his official documentation explicitly stated his position would be reinstated upon notifying Human Resources in the event of an election loss, his request remained unanswered for over a month. Instead of the expected reinstatement, he was abruptly issued a termination notice.
Another WAMCO employee who expressed concern over the matter stated that Sameeh has been an exemplary staff member at the company for the past eight years. He noted that Sameeh consistently receives the highest marks in performance appraisals, and argued that dismissing such a capable employee under the guise of cost-cutting is unacceptable.
Furthermore, the employee noted that five new individuals were hired at the Vandhoo facility during the period of Sameeh’s suspension. He also alleged that among the 20 staff members newly appointed since the current administration took office, the majority fail to report for duty even 15 days a month. The employee further claimed that letters sent to the head office requesting disciplinary action against these individuals have remained unanswered.
The employee further stated that while no action is being taken against those who fail to report for duty, hardworking staff like Sameeh are being dismissed due to political influence. He alleged that many current employees were hired through the influence of PNC Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falah. He added that the government’s decision to terminate productive employees while shielding others from accountability is a grave injustice against ordinary citizens.
