Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that he wishes to see the leadership baton of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) passed on to a new generation.
He made these remarks while speaking at the "Ithubaaru" campaign rally held in Lh. Hinnavaru.
President Solih stated that over the past 21 years, the MDP has produced two presidents who governed the Maldives, three Speakers of the People’s Majlis, and three Deputy Speakers. Furthermore, he highlighted that the party has fostered numerous prominent political figures who have served as party chairpersons and leaders.
Highlighting the individuals who have served in senior positions within the party, President Solih acknowledged the contributions of Ibrahim Ismail, Dr. Ibrahim Didi, Dr. Mohamed Munavvar, Mariya Ahmed Didi, Moosa Manik, and Ali Waheed. He further noted that Hassan Latheef, current Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail, current Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Nazil, and MP Ghafoor have all rendered significant service to the nation.
My vision is to see these prominent figures and leaders standing together on one stage on the party’s 21st anniversary, as we launch our efforts alongside a new leadership. What a proud moment it will be for the party to witness such a scene. On that day, we will see two former presidents, three former speakers of parliament, three former deputy speakers, and numerous other political heavyweights gathered in one place. My hope is that as this happens, we will witness the passing of the baton to the next generation. This is precisely why I am supporting Meekail.Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih

During the meeting, Solih underscored the vital importance of providing opportunities to young leaders in shaping the future of the MDP. He stated that initiating the party's efforts under a new leadership would further strengthen the organization.
