Meekail to represent MDP in Male' Deputy Mayoral race!
Meekail Mohamed Riyaz, the councilor for the Central Henveiru constituency, has won the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) internal primary to contest for the position of Male’ Deputy Mayor. Competing against three other councilors, Meekail secured seven votes in the election; given that the MDP holds a majority in the City Council, he is now widely expected to be confirmed for the post.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to nominate Meekail Mohamed Riyaz (Miki), the Councilor for the Central Henveiru constituency, for the position of Deputy Mayor of Male' City.
The MDP reached this decision during a vote held following the swearing-in ceremony for the new councilors. In addition to the appointee, three other councilors expressed interest in the position. These candidates included Mohamed Rizwan Ali (Relay), the councilor for the Maafannu West constituency; Aishath Hana, the councilor for the Maafannu Central constituency; and Fathimath Zahiyya, the councilor for the North Hulhumale' constituency.
Among them, Meekail secured the highest number of votes, receiving a total of seven.
With the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) securing sixteen seats in the Male' City Council, Meekail is widely expected to win the upcoming vote for the position of Deputy Mayor.
The swearing-in ceremonies for councilors elected to the fifth term of local councils, along with the signing of the declaration by members of the Women's Development Committees, were held across the Maldives on Sunday.
