South Galolhu MP Meekail Ahmed Naseem, a candidate for the MDP Chairperson election, has stated that he is the candidate who will uphold the party's integrity, adding that his primary goal is to secure a victory for the MDP in the 2028 presidential election.

Meekail made these remarks while speaking at a special ceremony held at Artificial Beach on Thursday night to launch his "Ithubaaru" (Trust) campaign manifesto.

Speaking at the gathering, Meekail stated that he is contesting for the position of MDP Chairperson to restore the public's lost trust in the party. He noted that while many describe politics as a dirty field that people should avoid, he does not believe it must remain that way forever. Meekail further emphasized that his political work is aimed at changing these norms and establishing governance in the Maldives based on principled policies.

Meekail stated that his objective is to introduce "principled politics" to the Maldivian political landscape and reform the governance system from within the MDP. He expressed confidence in implementing the changes and policies desired by the public, ensuring the establishment of an MDP government in 2028. Furthermore, he emphasized that the party's general membership should trust him because he is a candidate who remains true to his word.

I do not believe that politics must remain a dirty game forever. This needs to change. We are engaging in political work specifically to transform these norms. Our goal is to bring governance to this country that is built upon clear principles and policies. We are working to introduce principled politics and to reform the nation’s system of governance through this party. I have entered this election to implement the changes and policies that the people desire. We will establish an MDP government in 2028. We will achieve this. We will make it happen.
Meekail Ahmed Naseem

Addressing the party's general membership, Meekail stated that he has stood by them through both the party's triumphs and setbacks, and pledged to remain steadfast in that commitment moving forward. Noting that the Maldivian people today desire a trustworthy MDP and a reliable government, Meekail asserted that he would never make a promise he does not intend to keep for the sake of achieving a political objective. He further assured members that he would remain loyal and honest in his service to the party.

Furthermore, pledging to transform the MDP into a politically formidable force, Meekail stated that the most crucial step toward this goal is ensuring a fair and equitable presidential primary within the party for the upcoming election. He added that electing a chairperson capable of facilitating such a transparent process is essential for the party's future.
