Political ladder burning

Scrambling back to the ladder they kicked away?

The Muizzu administration is facing criticism for its perceived lack of integrity and the abandonment of key political allies who helped it gain power. After distancing themselves from figures like Abdul Raheem Abdulla and former President Yameen, government officials are now accused of desperately attempting to reclaim those connections to manage current failures. This shift highlights a pattern of political opportunism that undermines long-term stability and professional reputation.

Human nature dictates an innate drive to climb the social and professional ranks of life. While a segment of the population relies on the sweat of their own brow and genuine talent to move upward, a different breed of people prefers to use the scaffolding of friendships and the ladder of connections to reach the summit.

Leveraging a network to find success is not necessarily a sin. However, there is a pathetic and predictable trend where people reach the peak and immediately toss away the very ladder that got them there. By burning those bridges, they leave themselves with no safety net when they inevitably have to come back down. The result is usually a messy, ungraceful crash to the earth that leaves their professional reputation in tatters.

Parasites in politics

One of the most stomach-turning sights in politics is watching someone try to elevate themselves by literally stepping on the heads of others for selfish gains. Any victory built on the destruction or undermining of others is a house of cards that won't last. These political actors are frequently compared to filth-carrying flies or Aedes mosquitoes, pests that only survive by sucking the life out of others or spreading rot. It makes you wonder what kind of actual value these people bring to the country.

Muizzu administration's desperation

As these political dramas play out, it is becoming increasingly clear that the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has hit a wall of desperation. After previously discarding the support structures that helped them seize power, we are now watching them try to pathetically lean back on those same discarded tools.

Take Abdul Raheem Abdulla, the Speaker of the People's Majlis. He was arguably the most essential player in securing the presidency for Muizzu, yet he was pushed to the margins toward the end of 2024. Fast forward to late April 2026, and suddenly there is a theatrical shift where Abdul Raheem has once again been trotted out as the lead spokesperson and defender of the government.

Minister of changing tunes

The Economic Minister has also undergone a convenient personality transplant regarding his public rhetoric. Minister Saeed is the ultimate example of this flip-flopping; he used to drown former President Abdulla Yameen in flowery compliments, only to turn around and bash him on every available platform once Yameen broke away from the Muizzu camp.

During that phase, the current leadership seemed to have developed amnesia regarding the symbolic empty pink chair they exploited to win their election. This abrupt U-turn in their tone is the living embodiment of the saying that the hand eventually falls back to the knee, which serves as a reminder that people always crawl back to their dependencies when they get desperate enough.

Sincerity: a foreign concept

It is honestly no shock to see them now praising Yameen and claiming to have deep affection for him as they try to navigate the current government's disasters. While lasting political progress requires a shred of sincerity, it is now glaringly obvious that knocking over your ladder and treating your helpers like garbage does not lead to long-term triumph. There is zero doubt that the Muizzu administration is currently tasting the bitter reality of trying to govern without an ounce of genuine integrity.
