Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia requests assistance of Maldivian community to help organize upcoming Eid al-Adha celebrations

The Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia has faced public backlash for contacting resident Maldivians to solicit financial or food donations for Eid al-Adha celebrations. Some residents described the move as unprecedented and absurd, noting that the embassy has never requested such assistance in the past. This controversy arises amid growing public concern over the government's decision to hold large-scale national Eid celebrations despite the country's deteriorating economic situation and official calls for austerity.

The Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia has requested the assistance of the local Maldivian community to help organize upcoming Eid al-Adha celebrations.

A Maldivian residing in Malaysia informed RaajjeMV that the embassy has been contacting Maldivians living in the country to coordinate celebrations for Eid al-Adha.

He stated that he is seeking assistance to celebrate Eid al-Adha on a grand scale. He noted that if financial contributions are not possible, he encourages the donation of traditional food items typically enjoyed by Maldivians during such festive occasions.

He noted that Maldivians in Malaysia have a long-standing tradition of coming together to celebrate occasions such as Eid, adding that they have never previously had to reach out to the embassy to request such assistance.

This has become an absolute joke. At this rate, we might as well not celebrate Eid at all.

The Maldivian Embassy in Malaysia has requested assistance from the local Maldivian community to celebrate Eid al-Adha, even as the government has decided to hold national-level festivities across three islands in the Maldives. However, the government is facing mounting public criticism for failing to implement robust austerity measures despite the significant economic challenges resulting from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
