Protecting workers' rights and ensuring a dignified life remains the top priority of the MDP: Solih
In his message marking International Workers' Day, former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih highlighted the significant milestones achieved during the MDP administration, including the establishment of a national minimum wage and the introduction of paid maternity leave. Reaffirming the party's unwavering commitment to advocating for labor rights, Solih emphasized the necessity of ensuring safe working environments and criticized the current administration's policies, calling for stronger protections to safeguard the fundamental rights of all workers.

Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the primary objective of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is to protect workers' rights and ensure a dignified life for them.
He made these remarks in a message issued on the occasion of International Workers' Day, observed annually on the first of May.
In a post on X marking the occasion, Solih assured that the MDP remains steadfast in its commitment to advocating for the rights of workers. He emphasized that ensuring the protection of labor rights has always been one of the party's highest priorities.
Highlighting the significant efforts undertaken to protect workers' rights during the MDP administration, former President Solih stated that the Maldives' first-ever minimum wage was established through the party's policies. Furthermore, he described the introduction of six months of paid maternity leave and the legal guarantee of service charges for tourism industry employees as pivotal steps taken toward the advancement of the workforce.
Solih further stated that the MDP will always advocate for making the workplace a mentally healthy and safe environment. He reaffirmed the party's commitment to protecting the rights of workers.
Solih’s message comes at a time when the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is conducting a series of protests in Malé. The opposition is calling for 12 specific reforms in the interest of national security, asserting that the public has lost confidence in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration. The MDP continues to criticize government policies while demanding that the administration ensure the protection of citizens' rights.
