Three candidates to contest for MDP Chairpersonship!
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has officially announced the candidates and their respective ballot numbers for the upcoming chairperson election. Additionally, a three-member complaints committee has been established to oversee election-related grievances, with the party now formally accepting submissions.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has officially announced the candidates for its upcoming chairperson election, scheduled for Friday, June 12, 2026, and has finalized the order of candidates on the ballot.
The MDP has noted that these candidates were verified by the Elections Committee after reviewing the applications submitted for the party's chairperson election. They meet the eligibility criteria specified in the announcement made on April 22, 2026.
Chairperson Candidate number 1 for the election has been assigned to former President Mohamed Nasheed (Anni), of G. Kenereege, Male'.
Candidate number one was assigned to Ibrahim Mohamed (Waadu) of Hudhuvilaage, L. Fonadhoo. Candidate number two was secured by the incumbent Member of Parliament for the South Galolhu constituency, Meekail Ahmed Naseem of G. Barosa, Male'.
Furthermore, the MDP has established a Compliance Committee for the chairperson election. This committee was formed by the Election Committee in accordance with Article 46(a) of the Election Regulations. The committee members are Al-Usthadh Mohamed Nishan Ibrahim (Evening-in, Sh. Foakaidhoo), Dr. Aishath Ali (M. Hiyavahige, Male'), and Mr. Shathir Abdul Rahman (Bogainvilla, Dh. Kudahuvadhoo).
