Home Minister Ali Ihusaan has leveled indirect allegations against former Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi, suggesting that his conduct while in office was improper.
Police conducted a search of the Adhadhu newsroom last Monday night in connection with the documentary "Aisha" released by the outlet. Commenting on the matter in a post on X, the former Chief Justice stated that the Minister does not have the authority to influence the investigation. Didi asserted that the Minister’s social media posts clearly demonstrate an attempt to exert influence over the investigation into the documentary. Raising concerns about whether the police are being granted the space to conduct the inquiry with independence and integrity, Didi emphasized that the investigation must proceed without outside interference.
In response to Didi’s remarks, Ihusaan stated in a social media post that he does not possess the authority to influence police investigations and, therefore, has never exercised such power. The Minister further noted that he fulfills his ministerial responsibilities in a manner distinct from how Didi "conducted himself as Chief Justice."
The Minister’s remarks imply that Didi exercised powers he did not legally possess or exerted undue influence during his tenure as Chief Justice. However, the Minister did not elaborate on the specific reasons behind these allegations.
