Man sentenced to 12 years and six months in prison after being found guilty of trafficking diamorphine
Ali Saaim, a resident of Sheerazeege in Seenu Atoll Feydhoo, has been sentenced to 12 years and six months in prison and fined MVR 50,000 for trafficking diamorphine. Police highlighted the conviction as a significant success resulting from the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in the ongoing crackdown on narcotics.

The Criminal Court has sentenced a young man to 12 years and six months in prison after finding him guilty of trafficking diamorphine.
On April 7, 2026, the Criminal Court delivered this verdict against Ali Saaim, 32, of Sheerazeege, S. Feydhoo.
He was found guilty of trafficking diamorphine and sentenced to 12 years and 6 months in prison, along with a fine of 50,000 Rufiyaa.
Saaim was arrested on August 19, 2024, on allegations of drug possession and trafficking. Following the completion of the investigation, the case was forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office on October 16, 2024, for formal charges to be filed.
Regarding the case, police stated that this was a successful joint operation conducted in collaboration with relevant institutions as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking. Police further noted that special measures are being taken to ensure the strictest legal action is pursued against those involved in the drug trade.
