A verdict has been delivered in the case involving the murder of a foreign national during an altercation aboard a fishing vessel.
In this case, Mohamed Masood, a Bangladeshi national, has been charged with the murder of fellow countryman Mohamed Shaheen. He faces a charge of intentional homicide in connection with the incident.
Witnesses in the case testified that after Masood attacked Shaheen, he was seen attempting to pull the knife out. One witness further stated that while the knife was still embedded in the body, Masood was observed attempting to twist the blade.
Furthermore, witness testimonies revealed that the attack caused Mohamed Shaheen’s lung to collapse and resulted in significant blood loss.
In his statement to investigators, Masood admitted that a dispute had broken out between the two, leading to a physical altercation. However, he maintained that he did not intentionally stab Shaheen.
Witness testimony in the case reveals that Masood Shaheen was attacked with a sharp knife typically used for cutting yellowfin tuna. Furthermore, the evidence indicates that the assailant made no attempt to assist Shaheen following the attack.
The presiding judge ruled that the charges filed in this case have been proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The legal heirs of the deceased in this case are his mother and father. Both parents have stated that they do not wish to seek the death penalty.
The judge therefore sentenced Masood to life imprisonment and ordered him to pay 1.25 million Rufiyaa as blood money (Diyyah).
