President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has rejected a proposal by former President Mohamed Nasheed and former MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail to hold discussions on implementing significant structural changes.
During a press conference held at the President's Office on Monday, a journalist noted that former President Mohamed Nasheed and former MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail proposed significant constitutional amendments. The journalist inquired whether President Muizzu would accept the invitation to join the MDP at the discussion table to deliberate on these proposals. In response, President Muizzu stated that such matters fall outside his current mandate. He emphasized that his administration remains focused on fulfilling the commitments outlined in his five-year manifesto.
In my view, that would fall outside the mandate the people have granted me. The mandate I have been given is for a five-year term to deliver on the manifesto and the promises I announced. Therefore, I will continue to move forward with the responsibilities entrusted to me by the citizens.President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu
