Not even a single pill is available to public under this administration; questions must be raised regarding how budget is being exhausted: Nazil
MP Nazil characterized the current administration as incompetent, asserting that despite being granted a substantial budget, it has failed to provide essential services to the public—a sentiment he claims is reflected in recent election results. He highlighted that numerous projects initiated by the previous government across various islands have come to a standstill, and criticized the administration for failing to alleviate the rising cost of living. Furthermore, Nazil noted that the public is increasingly questioning the government's transparency regarding its budgetary expenditures.

Ibrahim Nazil, the Minority Leader of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Member of Parliament for South Hithadhoo constituency, has characterized the current administration as highly incompetent. He noted that despite President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu being allocated a substantial budget from taxpayer funds, the public has reached a point where they cannot even access basic medication two and a half years into the term.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, MP Nazil stated that the public delivered a clear and unequivocal message to the government through the Local Council Elections, the Women's Development Committee elections, and the referendum held on April 4th. He noted that the results serve as a definitive public verdict, labeling the current administration as incompetent.
Highlighting that over 148,000 Maldivians have already rejected the current administration, MP Nazil stated that despite being granted a substantial budget funded by taxpayers, President Muizzu’s government has failed to initiate any meaningful work or take action to ease the daily hardships of the people.
MP Nazil stated that he visited 80 islands across the country ahead of the elections, and in none of those islands were any projects initiated by the previous administration currently underway. He further noted that no new projects have been commenced either.
The provisional results of the three recently concluded elections are now very clear. After two and a half years in power, the Maldivian people have delivered a resounding rejection of this administration, and specifically of the President. This outcome follows a period where, despite the passage of a massive state budget, the public has seen no tangible benefits. The situation has deteriorated to the point where even basic necessities, such as essential medicine, have become unavailable. Consequently, the people have spoken clearly, labeling this an incompetent administration.Ibrahim Nazil, the Member of Parliament for the South Hithadhoo constituency and Parliamentary Group Leader of the MDP.
MP Nazil stated that President Muizzu and his cabinet lack the necessary expertise to manage the state and govern effectively. As a result, he noted that the public is currently facing a rising cost of living and significant financial hardship. Furthermore, he pointed out that despite the surge in global oil prices due to the conflict in the Middle East, the government has failed to utilize the contingency budget or provide any relief to the citizens.
While delivering the 2026 Presidential Address, President Muizzu announced that the 2025 budget had been utilized in its entirety, without the addition or reduction of a single rufiyaa. In response, MP Nazil stated that the government must demonstrate to the public the actual work achieved with these funds. Furthermore, MP Nazil noted that citizens are increasingly raising questions regarding the manner in which the government is exhausting the state budget.
