The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has accused the government of disseminating misinformation designed to invalidate votes in an attempt to influence the outcomes of the upcoming local council elections, Women's Development Committee elections, and the scheduled referendum.
Speaking at a press conference held by the MDP on Sunday, National Congress member Abdulla Rasheed Hassan alleged that the government is withholding essential information and failing to conduct public awareness campaigns in a deliberate attempt to influence the outcome of the elections scheduled for April 4.
He noted that instructions on how to mark the ballot papers have been significantly misrepresented. He further stated that government officials intend for a large number of votes to be invalidated and accused the state media of withholding such information from the public.
The Elections Commission has finalized and publicized the sample ballot paper for the upcoming election scheduled for April 4. Detailed information regarding the criteria for valid and invalid votes is also available on the Commission's official website. However, various government officials have been accused of disseminating misinformation and attempting to mislead the public during meetings, rallies, and particularly during door-to-door campaigning.Abdulla Rasheed Hassan, Member of the MDP National Congress

He also urged citizens to cast their ballots to reject the government, emphasizing that they must do so even if polling stations are not established on industrial islands and resorts.
