MMA’s vaults contain nothing but two packets of mothballs; electricity will be cut off across all islands after the 4th of next month: Ghafoor
Speaking at a rally in Fuvahmulah City, Ghafoor warned that fuel prices are expected to surge following the election, leading to widespread power outages across the islands. He further accused the current administration of fostering systemic corruption and transforming the nation into a "nest of thieves." Ghafoor characterized the upcoming referendum as an attempt to strip citizens of their collective power, urging the public to take a stand and decisively reject the vote.

The interim chairperson of the MDP, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, has stated that the Maldives Monetary Authority’s (MMA) vault contains nothing more than two packets of mothballs, warning that island-wide power outages will begin after the 4th of next month.
Speaking at an MDP rally held in Fuvahmulah City on Friday night, Ghafoor —who also serves as the Member of Parliament for the Hanimaadhoo constituency—stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration has been granted a larger budget than any other government since the adoption of the "Green Constitution." However, he noted that despite these record funds, the administration has failed to deliver any meaningful progress for the citizens or the islands.
However, Ghafoor stated that the budget has been exhausted and alleged that the entire state is openly engaging in theft. He further remarked that corruption is embedded in the DNA of the PNC government's senior officials, suggesting they possess the equivalent of a PhD in the field.
Referring to the conflict in the Middle East, Ghafoor stated that while no significant measures are being taken at present, the government will impose hardships on the public following the elections scheduled for April 4, including cutting electricity across all islands. He further claimed that the central bank is depleted of funds, remarking that the state treasury contains nothing more than two packets of naphthalene balls.
The state's finances have been completely depleted. There is nothing left in the central bank's vaults except for two packets of mothballs. I repeat, the central bank's vaults are empty, containing nothing but two packets of mothballs. Listen closely to what I am telling you. After the fourth of April, power outages will begin across every island in this country, including here in Fuvahmulah. Even today, petrol is being sold at 30 Rufiyaa per liter in this country. Prices are being kept artificially low in some areas simply to secure votes. However, immediately following the 4th, petrol prices will skyrocket nationwide.MDP Interim Chairperson Abdul Ghafoor Moosa (Gapo)
Furthermore, Ghafoor stated that the current administration has corrupted and ruined the nation, transforming it into a den of thieves. He asserted that holding a referendum under these circumstances is an attempt to completely strip the people of their power, and urged citizens to come out and openly reject the vote. Ghafoor further emphasized that the public cannot be intimidated, warning those who resort to such tactics that they will face imprisonment in the future.
