Death of Sergeant Adam: Conviction upheld following retrial!

The Criminal Court has once again found Mohamed Samaah guilty of the murder of Police Sergeant Adam Haleem in K. Kaashidhoo. The verdict follows a retrial ordered after his initial death sentence was overturned.
The Supreme Court of the Maldives has overturned the death sentence of Mohamed Samaah, convicted of the murder of Police Sergeant Adam Haleem in K. Kaashidhoo, and ordered a retrial at the Criminal Court following an appeal filed by the defendant. The Supreme Court issued the ruling to rehear the case on September 23, 2024.
This case pertains to an incident that occurred on July 23, 2012.
Following the Supreme Court's directive, the Criminal Court proceeded with the scheduled hearings for this case and issued a guilty verdict during Sunday's session. The court is scheduled to announce the sentence this coming Thursday.
Based on the circumstances of the incident, Police Sergeant Adam Haleem encountered Samaah on the street while the latter was under house arrest. The officer was subsequently attacked while attempting to take him into custody and transport him to the police station.
The officer was subsequently attacked with a sharp object and killed in connection with the incident.
