Dr. Munavvar voices opposition to holding two elections on same day, characterizing proposal as a reflection of authoritarian tendencies

Former Attorney General Dr. Mohamed Munavvar has characterized the proposal to hold two elections on the same day as an authoritarian mindset.
Dr. Mohamed Munawwar, who served as Attorney General for a decade during President Maumoon’s administration, stated in a post on X that holding two elections on the same date or simultaneously distances those in leadership from state accountability.
Furthermore, he stated that it was an authoritarian mindset.
Munawwar called for mechanisms to be established that ensure leaders frequently engage directly with the people.
Dr. Munavvar is a member of the committee established by the current administration to reclaim the Chagos Islands. Furthermore, President Muizzu has appointed Dr. Munavvar as the chair of the commission tasked with investigating the case of 21-year-old Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, who was found fallen onto a roof.
